Aim: How to conduct Internet research with photographs

Objectives:

  • Students should be able to use different search engines and use keywords in search.
  • Students should develop skills to organize the material found on Internet.
  • Students should develop their critical thinking skills through the writing, finding the connections between photos and concepts, relating the concepts to the theme, etc.
  • Students should complete their own writing projects.

Preparations:

Students should have already completed 3 assignments for their writing portfolio.

Computer lab with Internet connection.

Procedure:

1. Put together a list of topics for a particular theme they would like to research, such as: landmarks in NYC, heroes, holidays, or a topic that corresponds to something they are currently studying in their social studies class.

2. Introduce different search engines and use of search engines. Let students share how they find information online.

3. List keywords and topics. Search them in search engines.

4. Prepare to put writing and photo pieces together into web page.

Assignment Project:

Complete the research project.
